Overview

Many users have asked whether the ZWA-2 Z-Wave USB stick can be used with the SLZB-MR1U throughusing its USB passthrough over Ethernet feature.

Until now,recently, we were unable to confirm compatibilitythis — as weit had not yetbeen tested this specific configuration.in-house.

We have now tested thethis setup with the latest firmware,setup, and we arecan happy to report that:confirm:

ZWA-2 works perfectlyreliably with SLZB-MR1U over Ethernet using USB passthrough.

  • SLZB-MR1U (hardware)hardware

  • SLZB-OS firmware v3.0.0 firmwareor newer

  • ZWA-2 USB Z-Wave USB stick

  • Z-Wave JS UI (or othercompatible Z-Wave software that supports TCP/IP serial passthroughintegration)

  • Network accessAccess to the SLZB-MR1UMR1U's IP address on your local network


???? Why SLZB-OS v3.0.0?

We recommend usingFirmware SLZB-OS v3.0.0 (released 29 August 2025) because:includes:

  • It✅ Fix for resolves previous issues with USB passthrough stability

  • It✅ Fix for fixes EFR32 firmware flashingupdate problemsfailures (Thread radio)

  • It’s???? General improvements for SLZB-MR1U reliability

It is the first firmwarerecommended version tofor officially support stableusing external USB devices likewith ZWA-2 on MR1UMR1U.

???? Setup Instructions

  1. Flash your SLZB-MR1U with SLZB-OS v3.0.0

  2. Plug the ZWA-2 USB stick directlydongle into the USB-A port of the MR1U

  3. Open Z-Wave JS UI on your host system

  4. Configure the serial port as:port:


tcp://<SLZB-MR1U-IP-ADDRESSIP>:8638
  1. Save settings and restart Z-Wave JS UI

  2. YouPair should now be able to include/pairyour Z-Wave devices as normalusual

????⚠️ Notes and Best Practices

  • USB passthrough works best with powered USB hubs if you plan to add multiple USB devices (coming soon in future firmware).

  • Only one USB device is supported at thea moment.time (multi-USB support is in development)

  • EnsureMake sure port 8638 is accessible on your network firewall allows access to port 8638.

  • Avoid usingrunning USB passthrough andwhile flashing EFR32 at the same time(Thread) — even though the issue is resolved, it's besta good practice to dokeep thesethose separately.tasks separate
